Some day is Today.

Located approximately a one half hour drive from the Meridian in the center of the Island the Black Pearl golf course is a treat for the finest well-traveled golfers and for those of us who just love a day on the links.  If you are visiting and don’t want the inconvenience of totting your clubs with you through the airport  a terrific variety of rental clubs are available.  Everyone from the manager to the grounds keepers at the course truly make you feel right at home.  Our caddy was not only a great guy but was also remarkably helpful and knowledgable in regard to the intricacies of the course.  The next time you make a tee time  at the Pearl make sure to ask for the best caddy on the course “Dennis”.

The creation of this world-class golf course adds one more dimension to the evolving lifestyle for the residents and visitors on Roatan.  After all, what would retirement be without the opportunity to shoot a round of golf at ten o-clock on a Tuesday?

This combination of new arrivals is fueling the exponential growth in tourist related activities, resident services and entertainment, and of course the real estate and construction industry. New businesses and real estate developments are popping up from one end of the Island to the other.

Today’s trend of more active lifestyles leaves many of the ten thousand “baby boomers” retiring each day looking for something they call “Semi-retirement”.  Many want to work, but at this time in their lives, want to do what They want to do.  The burgeoning economy of Roatan provides this opportunity like no other location. Many of our guests have come close to cancelling their trip because of rainy forecasts. Cruise to Roatan!

Yes, that’s right, cruise to Roatan as a means of transportation, disembark and stay for a while.  Check with the cruise line for itineraries and company policies regarding embarkation and disembarkation here on Roatan.   Some cruise lines do not offer this option but Carnival has been very accommodating.  We were pleased to meet our booking agent this week when he and his wife visited us at Bite on the Beach in West Bay while enjoying their cruise vacation.  You can contact him, Michael Hall mhall2@carnival.com 1-800–819-3902, Ext. 85765 and book your Island travels.
Currently we have cruises originating in Florida, Texas and Louisiana which all visit our wonderful Island.

This option is particularly attractive for those of us who have a home on Roatan.  There are no  extra expenses or hassle encountered when we show up with our extra luggage filled with all kinds of goodies to make our Island house a home.

It was not surprising to hear a new charter service recently announced they will be adding three new direct flights to Roatan per week .  The part that was not expected is the flights will originate in the Spanish cities of Barcelona and Madrid.  The flights will be scheduled from June through October and are opening new doors for even more European guests.  Recent difficulties in Europe and North Africa are sending more and more tourists West to the friendly and safe Caribbean destination of Roatan.

Roatan residents are excited about this new opportunity to easily travel direct to the cosmopolitan cities of Madrid or Barcelona.   We love living in paradise but every now and then we like to go on vacation.

West Bay is posting record numbers of visitors in the first quarter of  2011 that have never been seen before.  The flights to Roatan just seem to keep growing and the destination of choice on Roatan is West Bay.  Were once you could arrive and search for a bargain hotel rate today you must make reservations or you may be spending your time somewhere else and having to commute to West Bay.  Semana Santa has always been the biggest week of the year with the climax occurring on Good Friday but in these busy times it seems to almost be the norm. 

Friday will assuredly bring the busiest afternoon of the year with what seems to be half the Island looking for a dip in the sea and a good time.  Guaranteed a fun day worth planting yourself on the beach in preparation of a day of people watching.
